Travel Tips
§ Label all items
§ Take old clothes and throw them away as you go
§ Pack a small duffel bag. It can be used on the return to pack all of those souvenirs you bought along the way.
§ Every student needs to have a starter amount of money for when they arrive overseas.
§ Don’t forget to have some US money left for the return trip to buy snacks and drinks at the airport.
§ Ziploc bags are your friends! If it’s wet- Ziploc it. Carry extra ones!
§ Label every role of film and your camera. Keep these in your carry-on bag.
§ Bring a battery-operated alarm clock.
§ Put your name on ALL of your items.
§ Keep a copy of your credit cards, front and back, and traveler’s checks receipts separate from the cards/checks.
§ PARENTS: keep a copy of your child’s passport at home
§ General rule- if it’s lost, it’s gone. If you can’t stand to lose it, don’t bring it.
§ Even though you can’t lock your luggage during air travel, it’s a good idea to lock it in your hotel room.
When packing, be sure to have a 3 x 5 card describing the contents of your luggage inside of your carryon. This helps in case luggage is lost.
New travel rules limit the amount of lithium batteries that can be taken on airlines. Also, any liquids need to be packed in your check in luggage, or in a quart size baggie with no more than 3 containers of 3 ounces each. Be sure to check with airlines if you are not familiar with this travel restriction.
